Term 2 Newsletter

Kia ora and welcome back for term 2!

I hope this finds you all well and rested after a lovely two week break. We had a great start to our year in term 1. The children have all settled in really well, and they are working very hard. Gymnastics was a great success and proved to be a highlight for all!

Below is an outline of what lies ahead for Term 2.

Religious Education
This term we will be covering the Holy Spirit strand. The children will learn how the gifts of the Holy Spirit are present in their daily lives. We will also cover the church strand later in the term.

The Inquiry topic this term is science based, and we will look at simple machines. We will explore how they are part of our everyday lives and how they make our lives easier on a day to day basis. We will have 2 activities on this topic this term, the first being a visit from Imagination Station in week 2 and the second, a visit from Science Alive in week 6.

We will continue to develop our number knowledge focusing on addition & subtraction, as well as multiplication later in the term.

We are focusing on construction this term, and will incorporate this into our Inquiry topic.

Our library day is Friday, and the children are allowed two new books each week. Please try and return library books and folders by Friday.

Spelling homework will continue as it was in Term 1.  

For reading, I will not be giving a new book each night. The focus for this term will be on summarizing the story in the children’s own words, so as well as listening to your child’s reading, I hope you will be able to discuss the book with them…favourite part, characters, retelling the story in their own words etc. 

On a personal level, I would like to thank you all for your kind words and well wishes on my recent baby news! They were very much appreciated. The children in Room 1 are busy coming up with baby names!!
